The Pool House
Mt Eden, Auckland
The only space available for a new swimming pool and pool house was in front of the existing house, facing the street. This created some challenges, one being maintaining the visual importance of the original house, a timeless design by award winning architect Marshall Cook.
The new structure was inspired by the original house and speaks a similar language with a rhythm of vertical and horizontal elements and a Japanese architecture aesthetic. The pool house sits to the side leaving plenty of space for the main house and the stone walls with translucent screens add privacy while maintaining a “garden room” status.
The Resource Consent process for a structure in a front yard was a challenge, but the commitment of the owners and an excellent team of consultants saw it through.
Client testimonial
” We cannot speak more highly of Adriana Toader of Studio A. Her meticulous and considered design of our new swimming pool and pool house complex was seamlessly integrated into the existing property to the extent that it feels as if it has always been there. It is a work of art and we love it.
Adriana was involved in every step of the process, including dealing with numerous and complex Council requirements and her calm tenacity and vision was crucial to us gaining Council resource consent.
She is a pleasure to work with, and we would highly recommend her. “
