Glendowie Kitchen
Glendowie, Auckland [ TIDA Kitchen Awards Finalist 2020 ]
The owners had lived in the original 1970’s John Scott house, later altered by Simon Pirie, for over 20 years and still loved it. The previous kitchen had worn out over the years but the original teak bench tops were still in a good condition and could be refurbished. Laustsen Cabinetmakers did a wonderful job of lovingly restoring them to a new life.
The owners love the 1960’s-1970’s aesthetic and wanted a kitchen that would suit the house well. Their house is full of life and history, they have a lot of art works and objects collected over the years and wanted a kitchen which can display some of it.
The materials were chosen for their natural look and longevity. The innovative coloured mdf is moisture resistant, it has the colour all the way through and a clear lacquer was applied. Reeded glass adds lightness and texture as well as helps to kept things tidy.
The design intention was to make the kitchen fit into the existing house as if it has always been there. Our clients love how well it fits in with the original design and complements their unique style.
